LONDON, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Britain on Thursday expressed it's
condolences following a fatal fire also on Thursday in Ghana which
killed over 100 people.
A large number of the victims were believed to be taking shelter
at a fuel station in the Ghanaian capital Accra to escape a heavy
downpour when an explosion occurred.
"I am deeply saddened to learn of the tragic loss of life
following a fire at a petrol station in Accra after heavy storms.
My thoughts are with the families and friends of those affected at
this difficult time," British Minister for Africa James Duddridge
said in a statement.
"The UK and Ghana have a deep-rooted relationship. We stand
ready to assist the Ghanaian authorities in any way we can," he
added.
Witnesses said days of heavy downpour have triggered widespread
flood and paralyzed public transport in the city. Enditem
