Niger Delta ex-militants, under the aegis of Justice
Group, have said that their survival may be in grave danger, should President
Muhammadu Buhari scrap the amnesty programme. Leader of the ex-militants, David
Owhegbe, who spoke yesterday in Jesse, Ethiope West Local Government Area of
Delta State, said:
“Since the government of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has completely
failed us and the nation in general in its 16 years rule, we were already
thanking God when the All Progressives Congress, APC, administration came with
the change slogan.
“We felt that relief had come to the masses of Nigeria and we have now been
liberated from the bondage of ill administration, until we started hearing of
the issue of scrapping the amnesty. If President Muhammadu Buhari goes ahead to
scrap the amnesty programme, it means majority of us will die from starvation.
“We beg the president not to scrap it because it will adversely affect us
and our families.”
