The Chief Judge of Anambra State,
Justice Peter Umeadi, has freed six inmates of the Aguata prisons on
bail, and discharged another one. 13 others were also released from the
Onitsha prisons.
This follows a tour of the prisons by
the Chief Judge aimed at decongesting the prisons. The tour, which
started on June 1, will end today with a visit to Awka prisons.
Justice Umeadi also lamented that inmates in Onitsha and Aguata does not have records.
This according to him makes it difficult to apply for their bail at the regular courts.
Deputy Chief Registrar, Special Duties
and Protocol, Agbasionwe Eugene Agbasionwe said the tour was to ensure
that people unduly kept in custody were released.
The prison goal delivery is done annually to decongest the prisons in Awka, Aguata and Onitsha.
