The
immediate past governors of Akwa Ibom, Kano and Lagos states, Godswill Akpabio,
Rabiu Kwankwaso and Babatunde Fashola respectively have been conferred with
honorary degrees by the Babcock University, BU, Ilisan-Remo, Ogun State for
their outstanding achievements while they held forth as governors of their
states.
Speaking
at the 4th postgraduate convocation of the university, held Thursday, in it’s
central cafeteria, the Vice-Chancellor, BU, Professor Kayode Makinde said the
university conferred the honorary degrees on the past governors having
identified with their commitment to making the future of their states and
Nigeria bright.
Makinde
said, “In keeping with our tradition of recognizing excellence as part of our
initiative of encouraging development and patriotism, the university is
conferring honorary degrees on the following achievers: Mr. Babatunde Fashola
(SAN), Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso and Mr. Godswill Obot Akpabio.”
While
Kwankwaso, a Senator-elect for the 8th Assembly and Fashola who were present at
the ceremony were conferred with Doctor of Science in Global Economic
Development, Honoris causa and Doctor of Humane Letters, Honoris causa,
respectively, Senator-elect Akpabio who was unavoidably absent bagged Doctor of
Science in Global Economic Development, Honoris causa.
Responding,
Fashola and Kwankwaso thanked the university for finding them fit enough to be
conferred with the honorary degrees.
